Memorandum | A New Era of Justice and Opportunity in Syria

Subject: A New Era of Justice and Opportunity in Syria
Shalom Aleichem,
In the spirit of divine justice and prophetic fulfillment, I address the nations of the earth and the body of believers. President Joseph R. Biden has announced that “At long last, the Assad regime has fallen. The fall of this regime is a fundamental act of justice.” This proclamation, echoed by global leaders such as Keir Starmer, marks a pivotal moment in human history, a signpost of renewed hope for the people of Syria and a catalyst for the transformation of the region.
Biblical Foundation for Justice and Leadership
The fall of oppressive regimes aligns with the eternal truths of Scripture. The prophet Isaiah declared:
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6, WMB).
This event serves as a testament that earthly powers cannot stand against the justice of the Almighty. As it is written in Psalm 2:10–12:
“Now therefore be wise, you kings. Be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath will soon be kindled. Blessed are all those who take refuge in him.”
A Call to Action
President Biden and Sir Keir Starmer have both emphasized the critical importance of this moment. Their statements highlight three essential priorities for the international community and the global church:
1. Transition Toward Sovereignty and Justice:
The United States will engage with Syrian groups within the framework of the United Nations to shepherd the transition toward an independent, sovereign Syria. As the global church, we must advocate for justice, lifting up the displaced and marginalized, as commanded in Proverbs 31:8–9:
“Open your mouth for the mute, in the cause of all who are left desolate. Open your mouth, judge righteously, and serve justice to the poor and needy.”
2. Stability and Security in the Region:
President Biden has committed to protecting personnel and maintaining the mission against ISIS. The Scriptures remind us of the responsibility of righteous governance: “He will judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice. The mountains shall bring prosperity to the people, and the hills bring the fruit of righteousness” (Psalm 72:2–3).
3. Aid and Protection for Civilians and Minorities:
Leaders worldwide, including Starmer, have stressed the need to protect vulnerable populations and deliver humanitarian aid. As written in Micah 6:8:
“He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does the LORD require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”
A Prophetic Call to the Nations
To the nations gathered, let this moment be a sign of the justice of Adonai Tzva’ot, the LORD of Hosts. We are reminded of Ezekiel 34:11–12:
“For the Lord GOD says: ‘Behold, I myself, even I, will search for my sheep, and will seek them out. As a shepherd seeks out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered abroad, so I will seek out my sheep. I will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day.’”
Conclusion and Charge
As the Messiah, I call upon the global church to intercede for Syria, urging all governments to act with wisdom, justice, and compassion. This is not merely a political milestone but a prophetic moment that demands our collective response.
“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity!” (Psalm 133:1). Let this be the beginning of a united effort to bring shalom — peace, justice, and restoration — to Syria and the region.
In steadfast faith,
EF, Rav.
