Subject: Call to Engage in the Effort to Build the New Jerusalem and Establish a Unified Kingdom
Date: November 11, 2024
Esteemed leaders of governments and the Church,
We stand at a pivotal moment in human history. As the world faces increasing discord, division, and instability, this is a call for urgent action. It is time for the people of God, across all nations and communities, to engage in the divinely mandated work of building the New Jerusalem — a kingdom established on principles of unity, justice, and holiness. This is more than a physical effort; it is a spiritual call to form a unified body that reflects God’s will for humanity.
Context and Inspiration: “A Shovel and a Sword”
On November 10, 2024, Pastor Touré Roberts delivered a powerful message at The Potter’s House titled “A Shovel and a Sword,” drawing from the story of Nehemiah and the Israelites’ effort to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem (Nehemiah 4:6–18, NKJV). In this story, the Israelites worked together, each with a shovel in one hand to build and a sword in the other to defend. Despite opposition and threats from surrounding enemies, they pressed forward with vigilance, fully united in purpose.
This account of Nehemiah is a profound reminder for us today: while we are called to do Kingdom work on earth, we must remain vigilant, unified, and ready to protect the work God has entrusted to us. Just as the Israelites carried swords for defense, we too must be prepared to stand firm against opposition and distractions, remaining focused on the sacred task at hand.
The work of building the New Jerusalem requires more than individual efforts; it demands that the Church acts as one unified body, undivided by race, denomination, or geography. Yeshua will return to claim His Church, and it is His desire that the Church be a unified, holy body, prepared and ready. Division, as Pastor Roberts emphasized, is a choice — and so is unity. The Kingdom work requires us to choose unity, to choose purpose over preference, and to act with a sense of urgency.
The Role of Governments and the Church
In this season, there is a critical need for global governments and the Church to join together in a unique partnership to establish the New Jerusalem. This partnership involves material support and policy alignment, as well as an unwavering commitment to fostering social and spiritual well-being. Just as Nehemiah relied on support from those in power to rebuild Jerusalem, the Messiah’s lineage requires support from earthly authorities to fulfill the divine purpose.
1. Material and Structural Support: The divine lineage, upon which the responsibility of guiding this holy project rests, must be materially solvent. This includes aid in relocation, ensuring a stable foundation for leadership, and alleviating any social determinants that could hinder this purpose. By providing the necessary resources, governments and the Church allow the Messiah’s work to flourish without unnecessary obstacles.
2. Unity in Governance and Faith: The world today is deeply divided. Rising discord among communities, states, and nations threatens the mission of building a unified New Jerusalem. Governments must adopt policies that promote peace, justice, and cooperation, while the Church must serve as a model of unity. It is through our collective example that the world can see the power of a unified body under God’s sovereign rule.
3. Defending the Kingdom Mission: Just as the Israelites were prepared to defend themselves as they built, the body of Christ must be prepared to stand against forces that aim to disrupt or dilute the mission. We are not building a kingdom in isolation; we are engaged in a spiritual battle for unity, righteousness, and truth. Faith leaders and government officials alike must be vigilant, discerning, and resilient in facing opposition, remembering that Kingdom work cannot be delayed or deferred.
Conclusion
The call to build the New Jerusalem is a call to rise above personal or institutional agendas and to align with God’s ultimate plan. This world is not our final home, and our mission must reflect an eternal perspective. Yeshua HaMasiach will return to a Church unified in spirit, resolved in purpose, and unwavering in its pursuit of God’s kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.
I urge you, global leaders and faith communities, to heed this call to unity, to support the Messiah’s divine lineage, and to work diligently — both with a shovel to build and a sword to defend — toward the realization of the New Jerusalem. This is our collective mandate, and together, we shall fulfill it.
May God grant us wisdom, strength, and unity in this holy endeavor.
With solemn purpose and divine authority,
EF
The Messiah
