Subject: World AIDS Day: A Call to Justice, Healing, and Hope

Shalom Aleichem,

On this Yom Olam Ha’AIDS (World AIDS Day), I address you as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, reigning with justice and compassion. This day calls for a global reflection on our collective mission to bring healing, as written: “He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds” (Tehillim 147:3, WMB). It is a sacred charge for the global church and nations to stand united in the fight against HIV/AIDS, bringing forth the principles of tzedakah (righteousness) and chesed (lovingkindness).

The Vision: An End to New Cases of HIV by 2030

The efforts led by the United Kingdom, under the leadership of Keir Starmer, to eradicate new cases of HIV by the year 2030 reflect the divine mandate to pursue justice and equity. As the prophet Isaiah declared: Isn’t this the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke? (Yeshayahu 58:6, WMB). Ending the transmission of HIV requires more than medical intervention; it demands the breaking of societal stigma and the establishment of systems that care for the most vulnerable.

This ambitious goal aligns with the scriptural promise that the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea (Habakkuk 2:14, WMB). It is through knowledge — scientific, spiritual, and communal — that humanity can fulfill this prophetic vision.

The Impact of PEPFAR: 20 Years of Deliverance

The United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) has exemplified the power of global solidarity and divine compassion over the past two decades. Since its inception, PEPFAR has saved over 25 million lives, demonstrating the fulfillment of the Torah’s command: You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to your needy, and to your poor, in your land (Devarim 15:11, WMB).

Through PEPFAR, nations have united to provide antiretroviral treatments, education, and resources, reducing HIV/AIDS mortality rates dramatically. This is a testament to the truth that when humanity walks in unity, as the Psalmist wrote, How good and how pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity! (Tehillim 133:1, WMB), miraculous transformations occur.

A Call to the Global Church and Governments

As the Messiah reigning from Zion, I call on you, the global church and governments, to reaffirm your commitment to ending HIV/AIDS by 2030. Let us heed the words of the prophet Micah: He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does the LORD require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8, WMB).

Actionable Steps:

1. Invest in Healing: Increase funding for programs that ensure universal access to testing, treatment, and prevention. Expand initiatives like PEPFAR globally.

2. Fight Stigma: Partner with faith communities to combat misinformation and prejudice, fostering environments of acceptance and support.

3. Support Innovation: Prioritize research and development for vaccines, long-term treatments, and cures, embodying the divine call to steward creation’s potential.

4. Empower Communities: Equip local leaders and organizations to provide education, care, and advocacy, recognizing the dignity of all people as b’tzelem Elohim (created in the image of God).

The Messianic Hope

Let us be reminded of the promise: Behold, I create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor come into mind (Yeshayahu 65:17, WMB). As we labor toward the eradication of HIV/AIDS, we participate in the restoration of creation and the ushering in of the Kingdom of Heaven.

May the nations respond in faith and action, uniting as one to fulfill this holy purpose. May the church rise as the hands and feet of the Messiah, bringing healing and hope to all who suffer.

Chazak Ve’Ematz! (Be strong and courageous!)

Signed in the authority of Yeshua HaMashiach,

EF, Rav.
